Snacking on Ukwa Seeds is Healthy.

Snacking is a part of our daily diet which can become unhealthy by the regular consumption of bad food choices. This can result in unwanted weight gain. A good snacking habit will keep hunger at bay while reducing calories. Snacking on African Breadfruit (Treculia Africana) seeds is a way to satisfy your hunger while giving a lot of healthy nutrients. African breadfruit is called ukwa in Igbo, afon in Yoruba, barafuta in Hausa, ediang in Efik, ize in Edo, izea in Ijaw and eyo in Igala.

Among the Igbo people of Nigeria, snacking on the roasted seeds together with coconut or palm kernel is quite popular. The seeds are low in calories and are a good source of;

Unsaturated Fats which help to fight inflammation.
Dietary fibers which help to lower cholesterol level.
Vitamins: Some have antioxidant properties while some are necessary for nutrition.
Minerals: Magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron.
Proteins.

If you are looking for a snack to add to your list of healthy snacks, ukwa seeds will be a good choice because they will make you feel full longer with complex carbohydrates, good fats, proteins and more. Remember to eat ukwa seeds in moderation as they contain fats. The calories in fats remain the same per gram whether the fat is saturated or not.
