Mackerel is the "Healthy Man's Fish"

Mackerel is a common deep water fish with  a cylindrical shape. Mackerel is also slim, oily and has a strong oily flavour. Mackerel has  been regarded as the “poor man’s fish” in most places all over the world mainly because of its availability as a cheap source of protein.

The regular consumption of mackerel is very good for overall health. It is helpful for the heart health benefits it provides and purifies the blood. Mackerel is rich in the following:

Omega-3 fatty acids and Omega-6 fatty acids
Proteins
Vitamins A, D, E, C, K, B12, folate, choline,
Minerals: Calcium, phosphorous, potassium, selenium and magnesium.

Mackerel is good to include in an anti-inflammatory diet and can help to:

Prevent Heart Disease.
Lower Blood Pressure Levels.
Reduce Inflammation.
Lower the Risk of Type II Diabetes.
Lower Bad Cholesterol Levels.
Help in Weight Loss.
Strenghten the Immune System.

It’s time for us to stop believing that mackerel is for the underprivileged and start including it in our diets for good health. For those dealing with some form of chronic inflammatory disease, mackerel is ideal for you.

Caution: Since mackerel contains trace amounts of methyl mercury in a little high amounts, it is advisable for pregnant women or would be pregnant women to avoid consuming it so that the mercury content does not cause harm to the foetus.
