Jute, called Corchorus olitorius, is a green leafy edible vegetable
that is prepared into a slimy soup called ewedu in South West Nigeria. It is
also known by other names like ahihiara, saluyot, rama. Jew mallow etc.
Jute is a good vegetable to include in your daily diet
because it is rich in numerous minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. It contains
iron, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, potassium, proteins, fibers, Vitamins A, C
and E, riboflavin, niacin and folate. These are nutrients that help the body to
fight diseases and maintain good health.
