Healthy African Snack 6: Kanyah

Image result for kanyah picturesKanyah is a popular snack in Sierra Leone that is made from groundnuts, gari and sugar.

Preparation.

  • Grind roasted groundnuts.
  • Add gari and some sugar to the groundnut paste and mix well.
  • Cut into cubes or desired shapes and serve.
Even though one of the ingredients of kanyah is sugar, you may limit the amount you use.

Read here about the benefits of cassava, which is used to make gari.

Rice flour may also be used to substitute gari though gari has more benefits for health due to the fact that rice has lost a lot of its nutrients during processing.

Making kanyah takes about 15 minutes to prepare and can store well in air-tight containers.
