Healthy African Snack 5: Adun

Image result for how to make adunAdun is a snack that is popular among Yoruba people of Nigeria. It is made from corn, pepper, onion and palm oil.

Adun is made from ingredients that are in their whole form and the preparation methods preserves most of their nutrients.

  1. Shell some corn seeds and roast in a pot.
  2. Allow to cool.
  3. Grind the roasted corn into powder.
  4. Prepare a sauce using some pepper and onions.
  5. Add some of the corn powder to make a paste.
  6. Mould into balls or any shape you like. Some are packed into leaves.

Adun is easy to make and takes no time. The ingredients are highly nutritious and beneficial to good health. Read here about the benefits of corn and here about palm oil benefits.

Corn is rich in fiber and carbohydrates too. Palm oil is oil and so, you should use in moderation.

We need to eat more of the foods eaten in our villages including our traditional snacks if we want to be rid of most diseases that plague us now but were not so common not too long ago.
