Owowo has its origin in South West Nigeria among Yoruba
people. It is made by simply cooking dry corn in water until soft.
Owowo is usually eaten from midday to early evening and most
individuals do not consider it to be a meal. It is usually eaten with coconut
slices with some sugar or salt sprinkled on it.
The corn is minimally prepared through boiling, is eaten
whole and so has most of its important nutrients intact. Read here about corn
and its health benefits.
Coconut is not processed and is eaten raw. Read here about
coconut and its health benefits.
One gains a lot from eating this snack because
the two main ingredients;
- Are high in fiber content.
- Are eaten whole.
- Contain most of their nutrients.
Owowo and coconut combination makes a very filling snack which most of us
have forgotten about or
do not know about or cannot be bothered with. If you are concerned about extra calories, do not add sugar or reduce the amount that you add.
