Myrianthus arboreus, called giant yellow mulberry tree in English, is an evergreen tree that is found in Central and West African countries. It is also called monkey fruit tree in English, ewe ade, ebisere, ibishere in Yoruba and ujuju in Delta area of Nigeria.

Young leaves are eaten in vegetable soups while the mature leaves and bark are used medicinally.

The leaves contain saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides and phenols

It is used as locally medicine and has the following properties;

It is used to

• relieve back and muscular pain
• treat pain from arthritis, fractures and muscular pain
• resolve pregnancy complications

Cassytha Filiformis Plant Medicinal Uses

Cassytha filiformis is the botanical name for a parasitic twining leafless plant with pronounced green stem. Its distribution is widespread and can be found on almost all continents.

It is called by different names such as slender devil's twine, devil's gut love vine, woe vine, fish net vine and parasitic vine. It is called omoniginigini, omonigelegele or otetebilete in Yoruba and rumfar gada in Hausa.

Also called dodder laurel, the plant contains alkaloids, tannins, saponins and leucanthocyanins and has the properties listed below;

The plant has a mild laxative or purgative effect and is used to treat constipation as well as dysentery. It is used to stimulate the uterus in order to promote or stimulate childbirth. Rosy periwinkle is an evergreen shrub with small white or pink or purple flowers that is found in most tropical and subtropical countries. It is known botanically as Catharanthus roseus. It is also called Madagascar periwinkle, cape periwinkle or rose periwinkle. In Nigeria, it is called apabida pupa (Yoruba),

Rosy periwinkle is widely used for decorative purposes but has a lot of medicinal uses traditionally.

In China it has been have widely used in the treatment of leukemia, hypertension, lymphosarcoma, and giant follicular lymphoma while in Korea and Hong Kong it is used as a source of alternative treatment for leukemia.
