Cassytha filiformis is the botanical name for a parasitic twining leafless plant with pronounced green stem. Its distribution is widespread and can be found on almost all continents.It is called by different names such as slender devil's twine, devil's gut love vine, woe vine, fish net vine and parasitic vine. It is called omoniginigini, omonigelegele or otetebilete in Yoruba and rumfar gada in Hausa.
Also called dodder laurel, the plant contains alkaloids, tannins, saponins and leucanthocyanins and has the properties listed below;

Cassytha filiformis has been used traditionally in areas it is native to;

- As a mild laxative

- To treat itches, eczema, rashes and skin issues
- To treat ulcers
- To treat parasites
- To support liver function
- To treat spleen, liver, kidney and gallbladder disorders
- To treat malaria
- To treat scalp disorders and head lice
- For menstrual issues
- To treat conjucvitis, eye diseases and inflammation
- To treat gonorrhea and urinary tract infections
- To reduce tumours and treat cancer
- To treat measles
- To reduce fevers
The plant has a mild laxative or purgative effect and is used to treat constipation as well as dysentery. It is used to stimulate the uterus in order to promote or stimulate childbirth. It can be used to suppress lactation or milk production after a still birth. It is a wonderful herb for detoxing the body.
It can be made into an infusion or decotion of whole plant or stem to be used internally or externally.
