Medicinal Uses of Securidaca Longipedunculata Roots.




Botanical name: Securidaca longipedunculata 

Common names: violet tree, fibre tree.
Other names: ipeta (Yoruba), sanyaa, uuwar maagunguna (Hausa), aalali (Fulani)

The violet tree is native to Africa. The roots have a pungent smell because of the presence of methyl salicylate. The roots have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycaemic, analgesic and anti-bacterial properties. They are used to treat a wide range of ailments.

  2. Respiratory issues like cough, asthma, chest complaints, sinusitis etc.
  3. Venereal infections
  4. Constipation.

The roots are used alone or with other plants in making herbal decoctions. They are used as arrow poisons to kill fish and can be toxic to humans if taken in excess at once.
